The Clocks Bookshop
We are a new bookstore that opened on December 4th, 2019. We specialise in Crime and Mystery books, Cookbooks and Children’s books. But you’ll find a terrific general fiction range too.
‘I’m afraid I don’t like your manner,’ he said, using the edge of his voice.
‘I’ve had complaints about it,’ I said. ‘But nothing seems to do any good.’
~Farewell My Lovely, Raymond Chandler
We think we have the best range of crime and mystery books in Canterbury.
So if you are after some classic crime such as penned by John Dickson Carr, Elmore Leonard or Georges Simenon, drop by and have a browse. And while there check out probably the biggest in-store range of Agatha Christie and Andrea Camilleri novels in the country. You'll also find plenty of contemporary crime authors, books on true crime and a Crime Noir series that will take you from Brooklyn to Venice.
“Always start out with a larger pot than what you think you need.”
~Julia Child
The Clocks Bookshop has more than 650 cookbooks in-store. Baking books, general cookbooks, vegetarian and vegan, special diets, regional cuisine, cookbooks for kids and even a cookbook for your dog. Because you always need another cookbook.
You’re never too old, too wacky, too wild, to pick up a book and read to a child.
~Dr. Seuss
We aim to have the best range of books for children and young adults in the city. There are some stunning children’s books, but many you may never get to see because of the narrow range stocked by the majors. In our small way we are trying to fix that. So whether it’s a classic children’s read (Like Paddington Bear, Mary Poppins, or the good Doctor Seuss), a story to get the little ones asleep, or a book to inspire or teach, come on in and have a look around.
“You call yourself a free spirit, a 'wild thing,' and you're terrified somebody's gonna stick you in a cage.Well baby, you're already in that cage. You built it yourself. And it's not bounded in the West by Tulip, Texas, or in the East by Somali-land. It's wherever you go. Because no matter where you run, you just end up running into yourself.”
~Truman Capote, Breakfast at Tiffany’s
At The Clocks Bookshop you’ll find a terrific range of contemporary and classic fiction. And because you asked, we have a steadily growing non-fiction and biography section, too. Stop on by, have a browse and be sure to let us know if there’s an author you think we should be carrying. And if we don’t have the title you are after, just ask and we’ll get it in for you if it is at all possible.
Happy reading. Hope to see you soon...
